Our Story - Caring | Community | Contribution

By purchasing The Stone Soup Kitchen products and becoming a regular customer and member of our community you are not only able to access and enjoy our products, recipes, content community membership benefits, you are also supporting The Stone Soup Collaborative, a Washington-based non-profit profit Nils McKenney and his wife, Rosie, co-founded in 2007 whose mission is "nurturing community through food; feeding all who hunger".

With the exception of a very limited amount of collaborators that have contributed throughout the years (whom we are so very grateful for), the bulk of the non-profit funding came straight from the McKenney's personal budget. While they have always been happy and even excited to fund the non-profit themselves, it put a significant strain on their family's own economic quality of life over the years. So they decided that they would start a separate, for-profit food business, The Stone Soup Kitchen, and contribute a portion of those profits to help fund the efforts of the non-profit.

"While we had made the decision to start The Stone Soup Kitchen, we had not yet decided what it would look like or what we would offer. One day I decided to make a small batch of my Nils' Magic Kimchi and store it in 24 ounce jars. I was unaware that my wife, Rosie, had taken a picture of one of the jars of my kimchi and posted it on Facebook Marketplace. The next morning she showed me the listing she had posted with orders totaling roughly, 85 jars! Just like that, we were given our answer! We were going into the kimchi business! Who would have ever guessed that my Magic Kimchi would become wildly popular with a constantly increasing customer and fan base! We are so grateful for all of you and want you to know that your patronage is making a difference in our lives and the lives of many of our community members."
